Homily Points

Holy Trinity Sunday

General.  Today’s solemnity is a feast of blessings to God the Father, to His Only Son Jesus Christ and to the Holy Spirit. Nothing is expected of us other than belief in this mystery and our adoration to our one Godhead in all His power and greatness.

Deuteronomy.  Moses reminds the Jewish people of the signs (miracles) and wonders which God has made with them when He took them out of the land of Egypt (Pharoah, sin) with an upheld powerful arm and great doings which instilled fear in the oppressors. It is for this reason that we who have seen similar wonders in our lives, are encouraged to keep God’s commandments so that we might be blessed in His eyes.

Romans. St Paul reminds us that whosoever receives the Spirit of God is a son of God and so, His heir together with Jesus Christ. In the same manner that Jesus has sufferred and found his glory in the resurrection, so have we through this spirit of adoption now cast out all fear and may call God, “Abba, Father.”.

St Matthew. At the same time that Jesus was given by the Father all power in heaven and earth, the disciples are now sent to teach and to baptise all nations in the name of the Holy Trinity. Christians for this reason have a warranty in the person of Jesus who will be with his Church unto the end of times.
